14mm Square Carbide Chisels

                                                14mm Square Carbide Chisels

 14mm Square

This is our 14mm Square Carbide Chisel, available in 3 sizes.

The Standard chisel at the top of the picture has a 14 inch handle and a 6 inch 10mm Square bar.

The Short Handle chisel in the middle of the picture, has a 9 inch handle and a 6 inch 10mm Square bar.

The Pen Turning chisel at the bottom of the picture, has a 9 inch handle and a 4 inch 10mm Square bar.

Our Square Carbide chisel, has been designed and made to do a variety of jobs. Most commonly called a Rougher, in the Woodturning world. This does not apply to our Square Carbide chisel. This tool has had the cutter fitted and the bar ground to allow the bevel of the cutter to be used.  Being able to use the bevel of the cutter, not only means this tool has the ability to mimic many traditional woodturning tools, it also makes it far safer in use. Maintaining bevel contact is what reduces the chances of catches. This is discussed and demonstrated in many of my YouTube videos, which I would advise you watching, to see how you can get the most out of this tool. Not only can this tool achieve the same results as a Skew chisel and Beading Parting Tool, it's fantastic for hollowing straight sided vessels. When used as described in my videos, with the tool rest set so the cutter is above centre, you start the cut and head down towards centre, which because of the angle and size of the bevel, the bevel comes into use during this cut, eliminating the grabbing and catching which is associated with using Scrapers when doing this type of hollowing. Again, this is far better to be seen in action on my videos, where I give full detailed instruction of how to do this.

When using this chisel for roughing down spindle work, again, this tool has been designed so the bevel of the cutter can be used to give a more controlled cut, reducing the chances of grabbing and catching, which is commonly experienced when using carbides as a Scraper. Again, I can not stress enough the importance of watching our YouTube videos where you will gain an understanding in the correct wat to use my tools. In no time you will be achieving professional finishes straight off the tool, reducing sanding.

Of course, if you want to use them as Scrapers, just making plunge cuts, then these are more than capable of doing that as well.
