Glen, you're a star.!! Rutlands were selling the chuck complete at £215. Filled a "contact us" form out and said I thought they were only £150. Matt Alton replied back to say it was a one day offer....gutted. ......but as a gesture of good will, he sold it to me for £150......that means I have £65 saved to spend on other goodies, once I convince the wife of the maths. Cheers..!!

Re Rutlands chuck. Hi Glen and Lisa, thanks for showing the Rutlands chuck on Tuesday and it was Wednesday when I saw your video. I emailed customer service and they said that as a gesture of goodwill, they gave me a code to get the chuck at the same price as you paid. Over the moon. Thank you once again. I am a subscriber. Keep up the videos. Very helpful

Hello, I watched your video on YouTube on how to create/make a wooden bowl using carbide tools. It was the video that has connected with me because it was easy to follow, you have a wonderful teaching methods, and it has helped me understand how to work with the wood and how to attach it to the lathe chuck. Thanks!

Hi Liza,
Thanks for your reply!  I’m new to wood turning and have become addicted to watching you and Glenn’s video’s.  I had not realised Glenn makes the carbide chisels until yesterday when I watched a video of Glenn making a tea lite stand out of ash and turning a piece of Yew.  So I looked at your website and thought I’d try out some of Glenn’s chisels.

Thanks again to both of you for all the effort you put into making the videos!!  There are very informative.

Kind regards,
Pete

I have received my chisels thank you for the quick service. Although I have not had the time to use them yet, I am impressed with the quality of them.
I do like the handle design, as I have arthritis in my hands i have to wear a glove to grip most conventional handles but with the shape of these handles I can see it is going to be a lot easier to manage. I we see how I get on with them. Thank you again for your service.

Hi there,

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for all of the tools that I have bought from you and especially the new ones that arrived this morning.  I couldn't wait to use them, so I was straight into the workshop with them and some scraps of beech and pine (cheap CLS timber from B&Q).  2 hours or so later, I emerged with a tea light holder and an egg cup.  Since the egg cup is not intended to be used, I decided to finish both of them with a carnauba wax finish inspired by your video on making that.  Please keep your videos coming!  Alongside the tools, my confidence in turning things other than pens has returned.  I hope you don't mind, I've attached some photos to show what they came out like.

I also discovered that even using the tools as recommended, slower speeds made it harder to avoid a little bit of tear out while higher speeds left cleaner cuts.  It was the confidence that I gained from watching your videos that helped me to decide to turn the speed up rather than down.

Thank you both again and long may you continue making tools and recording videos that help people like me out so much!

Scott

Dear Glen

May I say your level of service is 1st class like your product I ordered yesterday afternoon and my item arrived today by 11am

On inspection of your product can not fault it

I have bought the more expensive square(radius),detail, and no3 hollower from an American producer and looked at your round cutter model and took the chance.

Glad I did, I will test this out shortly(back gone disc) hopefully very soon and if it performs like I hope then I will be ordering your set of four you have on your website.

I noticed you have a multi chisel that you put 1/4" router bits in but could you make one for 1/2" router bits as I have a extensive collection of this size router bit, and what would the cost be?

Once again thank you very much for a fantastic product and service.

Mr. M R Pullan

Hi Glen

Having ordered your Standard S/H set of carbide tools yesterday, and receiving today I must pass on my thanks for a brilliant service.
I'm a 'newbie' to woodturning and after seeing Mike Waldt's review on Youtube I decided to invest in your tools. After a couple of hours of use today I am very impressed with the results. No doubt with more practice the results will be even better!

Again many thanks

You probably already know how good these are but I thought I would tell you anyway. They are fab. Now a proper, well sharpened high quality chisel might be better for some, for someone like me who doesn't get much time to do anything and would rather spend the time making things than sharpening chisels these are just brilliant. I've made an 8" bowl and an 8" cookie jar. (although the wife thinks it looks like an urn for ashes...). First attempt at turning I think they are not bad, not too technical and the cookie jar couldn't be done without the hook chisel. Very impressed thanks. Just need to get some spare tips just in case!

Hello Glenn

People tend to be very quick to complain these days - but I want to buck the trend and instead say a huge thanks.
I am very pleased with the Chisels I purchased from you recently.
My introduction to wood turning was as a youngster, well over 30 years ago on my fathers home made lathe, life and circumstances kind of got in the way and I have not touched a lathe since then, my wife persuaded me to buy one last year and I have saved hard to buy the chisels and other bits & pieces.
I am slowly learning how to sharpen the chisels but confess to finding it a bit of a struggle, then I saw your set, did a lot of research, read many reviews on them and made my purchase.
Today I found the time to give them a test run, I know I am very much a novice wood turner BUT wow these tools are amazing, all I did was played around with an old piece of log, the end result was nothing in particular but I felt so much at ease using them and am certain I will (with practice) be able to produce some good wood turned items when using them.
I would also like to say how impressed I am by your level of customer service and superbly fast dispatch.
So thank you very much for great service and great chisels, I will certainly be a repeat customer and have no hesitation to recommend your company to everyone.

Kindest regards
Chris

Thanks for the prompt service!!  Chisels arrived in N. Scotland within 48 hours and without any “remote area” surcharges  - a pleasant change!!

As a geriatric novice I am delighted with the quality and ease of use of the tools.  I had originally visited your web site with the intention of

buying the inserts and making up the tools myself.  However when I saw your prices for the finished articles I abandoned the idea of “DIY”.

I am glad I did!!  In my opinion, the tools are superb and more than fulfil the claims made for them.

Thank you again,

Alex Rennie.

Always been a chippy / joiner and have only been turning about 12 years, so still learning.

Glenn,

I wanted to share a picture of a star shaped tea light holder, but I am apparently missing a few pieces of equipment to  turn one safely.

However, watching your latest series  of small pieces from small blocks, I created my own challenge.  I have included pictures of a thin shallow bowl I turned from a piece of maple that was 5 5/8" square by 7/8" thick. It was made with two round carbides and a carbide detailer .There are a few ripples, but I kept getting thinner and thinner and did not want to make a funnel.  I had to use the tenon as a foot for the bowl because I could not get it off without ruining the piece.  Still learning and getting better every time I pick up my tools

I used your technique of mounting the rest at an angle.  What a difference it makes.

Here is to hoping we can continue to chat this way.

Thanks again for all the videos and all the  best to you and Liza.

Seriously, keep up the good work and I look forward to trying out carbide, following your lead, and just trying something different from my old traditional ways of doing things. Thanks for the inspiration and good luck for the future.

Hi I just wanted to say thanks.

I purchased a set of three of your carbide tools some time ago.

But just so you know during lockdown my son who is 32 currently and Autistic living with us …. We decided it might be a good idea for me to take him in my workshop and let him have a go at turning ….. lol

What could go wrong? Let’s spin some wood and stick a gouge in it …

Well using your tools he has had many hours of fun ..

I have yet to get him to use traditional tools but who cares if we need to sand a bit more he enjoys making things and colouring.

I will need to look at replacing the carbide cutters and will look on ur site ..

But as a suppler you need to know they are not just Carbide tools they are certainly in our case FAR more than just cutters…. It allowed him to cope with lockdown … learn something that he now enjoys… this leads to us doing craft fairs and mixing with people… all because he can cut wood…. With Glen Teagle carbides.

Kevin

Hi Glenn,

I don’t expect a reply as you are a very busy person but I wanted to thank you both for your series of videos using your carbide tools.

They have been invaluable and I will watch them over and over again and it’s given me the encouragement to turn my first bowl, a very small one from a branch from my little wood at the top of the garden. Ash maybe?πŸ€”

I used your superb set of tools.

It’s full of mistakes but I’m delighted with it!

The underneath doesn’t bear looking at as I made a mistake with which end the tenon was going to be πŸ™„ and there is a definite hump inside at the bottom which I hadn’t noticed until I polished it.

All mistakes that I’m learning from of course!

Buoyed up with my success I decided to try another one and was getting on very well until two RAF jets flew overhead my shed at about 500 feet 😬.

I won’t go into detail but that was the end of that bowl! More designer firewood 😏. It’s quite surprising how far these things can fly isn’t it?! And I mean the wood not the planes😁

Many thanks again and I’m sure there are many of us who appreciate the time, the love and the care that you have both put into making these videos and I can’t thank you enough. I shall be buying you both a cup of coffee!

Best wishes, Denise

Hi Glen & Liza.

Many thanks for the quick delivery of my type 3 set.

I've had a crack with all three, just on a piece of old fence post I had and I must say that it is the first time I've not had to spend an hour with 40 grit trying to sand tear out lol.

The detail chisel I think will take some getting used to but the other two were quite easy after following your you tube video.

I am very new to turning, only a couple of months in but I have already around 29 bowls πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ around the house.

I've also completed 7 of your tea light holders, bit scary but came out ok πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Keep up the good work

Kind regards

Mike.

Hi,Glen and Lisa. I am a member of the Scottish Borders Woodturners and  got your email from our secretary, Peter Jackson. I have never used carbide chisels before, but at the  price you are quoting, I thought that I would give them a go.

I have nothing to lose, so after reading your email and searching your website, I have ordered the standard 3 chisel set.

I turn almost every day, I suffer from Parkinsons disease, and turning keeps me going.

Hello Glenn @ Liza,

What a surprise when the chisel arrived yesterday the 28th and like a youngster I took great delight in taking it out of it’s cylinder.

I was totally blown away by the craftsmanship of the tool. YouTube does not show off the true Craftsmanship of the chisels.

The Detail carbide chisel cuts and shapes like a dream. This is not my last purchase from you guys.

I wish I could buy a set outright but being retired and limited cash flow I will have to purchase a chisel every month.

Liza you handle the camera well and the way you record Glenn demonstrating the various chisels makes it easy to grasp how to use them.

The lathe I’m using is a Lidl lathe and it is a replacement one I was sent from Scheppach and the casing has cracked and I and have been told I will get a credit from Lidl when returned. I am hoping that some Time this year I will be able to get a nice lathe with a cast iron base.

I’ve been turning for 2 years and have not been able to do and spindle work, bummer!

Regards
Leon Kohler

P.S The square carbide arrived today, many thanks and appreciate the prompt deliveries. There’s still a few more chisels I will be getting from you guys but my ship is stuck on a sand bank waiting a high tide.

Great service, I will be back.

Thanks Glen & Liza for these brilliant chisels, (SCH3 & SCH8). Now that I am familiar with using them, I can't fault them, I am a retired Quality Control Manager and I have found them completely fit for purpose. I also find them very reasonably priced, also promptly delivered.

Keep up your good work.

Good morning sir.

I just wanted to say a big thank you for everything you do, not only for me but viewers as well, for your tips/advice and the demonstrations. You've helped me a great deal just by watching your clips.

My farther started me off many years ago with his home made lathe.
It consisted of a B&D drill & stand, a make shift tailstock,  and normal wood chisels. I was fascinated watching him & had a go myself. Unfortunately he passed away in my late teens. A few hobbies we did together I kinda lost interest in.
Two years ago my brother gave me an old second hand lathe with a few chiselss. So I started try again. The skew's not my favourite. . My lack of knowledge didn't help & still now  unsure of what I'm doing. Then my lathe packed up. My wife (bless her) did a little shopping & surprised me with a Charnwood W824 midi lathe.
The chisels I have are basic & lose their edge fairly quick. I brought a set of Vevor HSS. I've not tried them yet. I assume I sharpen them beforehand.
As you saw, I posted the video you did for the chisel jig. I've only just come across the video where you demonstrate the technique on how to use the lathe as a grinder. I only get a free Saturday once in a while to play, but looking forward trying to set up with this method.
I too had problems with Axminster. My wife surprised me with the charnwood, but she was trying to get the Axminster first. I phoned & asked the assistant what the thread for the headstock was as I had a chuck for my old lathe He couldn't tell me. I asked if they stocked adaptors that would fit my chuck & the lathe I wanted. Gave him the chuck thread. He still couldn't tell me & i'd have to get one...  I got frustrated with him, put the phone down & thought to give up. The next day my wife surprised me with the Charnwood from a local hardware store. That's when I got the Vevor chisel set.
I wish I had more time to play, but never mind.
Thank you again Glenn for everything you record & post for viewers & myself..
Keep safe & happy turning.
Kind regards
Pete.

Dear Glenn

I want to thank Liza for getting you on utube. I have been a woodturner for over 30 years, and I learn from two English turners back in the early 90’s. I came to England because I think English turners are the best. Because of these two turners I felt I knew what I was doing, and their teaching took me a long way. Sorry I still think the Americans don’t know what they are doing.

To see you on utube has been a real treat and you remind me of the days when I first learned how to turn, and oh by the way, you have taken me to school. I have learned so many things from you. For that I am very grateful.

By the way after 40 years of turning, somebody is going to have to show you something awful good before they go mouthing off and think they can tell you something. DO YOU THINK?

With the greatest respect and all the best to you and liza

Hi Glenn and Liza.

Just to let you know that my chisels arrived yesterday. Thanks for your quick response to my order.

I got straight down to turning a simple sycamore bowl for my neighbour's birthday tomorrow. Nothing fancy, just a chance to get to know the new tools. Really impressed with the finish. I've used carbides before but they are not as good as yours.

I'm quite new to turning and looking forward to gaining more proficiency. I really like your video presentation style and content. You have already encouraged me to turn at more than 1000rpm! My next project is turning a set of hand sanders using your design.

Thanks again.

Thanks for your great vids. Keep it up. I'm about to "buy you a coffee and see if there is a carbide on your site that I "need!"

When you were talking re editor & techie stuff, you said you were "just a bloody woodturner"! Nearly correct but should have been "just a bloody good and generous woodturner".

I learn so much from you every time I watch. I started turning in 2017, had 3.5 years out, and came back in March this year. So you are helping a 70 year old produce stuff of a quality I like.

Cheers mate

Dear Glen and Liza,

First of all thank you both for the fabulous YouTube vids you put up, they are awesome, sensible and so clearly demonstrated along with being very entertaining.  Hubby (Alan Bradshaw) bought the pen chisel set which I then pinched (he is not a wood turner lol - into metal stuff).  I got my lathe almost a year ago and have been making loads of pens but for many years I have wanted to make my own bowl somehow - now I have the tools, just need to learn.  Your carbide standard set tutorials 1 - 9 have been an awesome help and I managed up to lesson 6 with the pen chisel set.  Hubby then bought me the standard chisel set and I have now completed tutorial 8, the pot with lid.  Well chuffed even though lots of room for improvement, that will come with time.  My reward to myself for getting this far is to get another chisel or two lol.

Once again, thank you to both of you for creating such a wonderful path for a beginner like me to follow and look forward to hearing from you re advice.

Jane Bradshaw

Hi Glenn

Just FYI , It was Easy Tools telling you that their tools are not to be sharpened. If that is the case, why does Craft Supply USA, have a video on utube showing you how to sharping carbides? Just saying.

I am upset with you. (Just joking). After watching your videos I went out and bought a set of carbide tools. I don’t know if you remember me, but I’m the old guy that has been turning for over 30 years and learned how to turn in England.

I thought I was over with turning until I saw your videos. It is great to see a turner that knows what he’s doing. You have inspired me to get back with it. Thank you.

Hi Glen, Lisa . I have brought a fair few of your chisels and told a lot of my members at the charity group I volunteer at how good they are and when training them on our lathe I now show them how it feels to go over to the dark side :) . Keep up the great videos mate I am a keen follower of all and show my guys at the shed on our projector all your new uploads as well and there is plenty a lesson based on what you have uploaded and many of our members watch your videos when they have brought some chisels from yourself. You are indirectly responsible for teaching at least 8 of my members how to use the type 3 set and they are now making lots of the smaller items you have been making like the tea light holders etc ready for any fayres we may attend, so you are also helping us to raise funds for our charity group as well all from the videos you upload :) . Have a great weekend the rain may be coming it is a bit wet down on the Sussex Coast. Thanks again Frank

Hello Liza.

Chisel received yesterday thank you.

What a great tool. I tried it yesterday and found for the first time I could use a carbide chisel.  I have tried a well known manufacturer but could not get satisfactory results. I found the overhang too much. With Glens chisel everything changed for the better. I got more and more confident with it. Once again many thanks for the great packaging and great service and a great price.

I will definitely be ordering some more of Glens chisels.

Kind Regards.

Thank you

My Chisels have just arrived and I busting to try them.

The main reason I have got these very good-looking tools is the sharping needed with other tools.

I am 78 almost 79.  I was an apprentice wood worker. I started of in a shopfitting business where I had to lean to use a lot of machinery (saws/routers/planners/mortise/spindle shapers /Woodturning/etc etc ).  Many times I had to go help to install it on the job.    Owing the Northern Ireland situation I had to leave the Building trade.    I ended up part of the security services ..  I have mentioned woodturning I was taught/learned very little.  Most of the tool we use  were hand made.    I had a workshop set up when I retired with the usual machines Bandsaw/table saw/planers/router table/, Etc.  Sorry to waffle on but last spring I decided to take up woodturning and you know the rest.
I  am doing most the things that my wife’s charity likes to sell.
Any way thank for your you tube and advice
I will enjoy using these chisels (very little sharping)

Dear Both

First I would like to say that as a beginner your YouTube videos have been an absolute saviour. I got a lathe two years ago with standard chisels and have not got very far with them, I think one of the problems is attempting to do it all on your own. Your carbide videos I have found very inspirational, todayI saw a video of Liza turning wood, I found that so useful and thought how lucky she was having great expert tuition.

So far I have brought a large type 3 piece chisel set, a number 2 SCH and I think a 9mm box hollower, I am sure if I ever improve I will be buying more.

Thank you

Chad

Hi

Thank you for sending the chisels so promptly 🀩,  I am relatively new to turning - started this time last year

But really enjoy it , it’s very satisfying creating things and learning new skills .

Traditional tools and carbides work very well together and I am following your other recommendation's using both hands to turn .

Bit of a struggle that one but I will persevere !

I am getting used to the increased speed of the lathe while being safe and enjoying the better finish on my work πŸ‘

I really appreciate the tips and advice you give out on your You Tube channel , thank you both so much , please keep them videos coming . Managed 1800 speed and feel safe at that , give it time and I will be able to increase if further i am sure .

The carbides work a lot better at speed you are right .

Thank you πŸ˜€

Hi Glenn and Lisa

My name is Ken McLeod.  I am from Windsor Ontario Canada.

To start off you have taught me so much in the last 6 mouths.  I would like to thank you.
I got a small 12 inch lathe a year ago second hand. I practiced on it till I found a bigger one.  So I got this King lathe 18 inches but I can put a extension on it when I am ready. Now I have watched alot of your videos.
I seen the one that you make the sharping for penny's.  But I just came across the ones that you sharpen your new Crown chisels.  So I am going to make up the jig and use my old 12 inch lathe for my grinder.

Thanks again Ken

Just wanted to thank you for the prompt delivery of my well-packaged AU chisel and cutters that arrived yesterday

Very impressed with the quality of the tool, the handle is a dream to use, equally as good if not better than other much more expensive branded tools

YouTube videos also very useful and interesting

Happy to recommend you

All I need now is the talent to be a better woodturner!!

Many thanks

John H

HI Glenn,

Just watched your video on making a sharpening system on the lathe.  FANTASTIC!    I have learned more in  watching  probably 10 or 12 of your videos than watching years of instructional videos from purist turners.   That isn`t ego polishing, it`s just a fact.  I enjoy your no nonsense, no BS, tell it how it is, style, and your philosophy of wanting to help would be woodturners who are struggling.

Just one problem … I watch your You Tube videos on  TV, and I just can`t find how to Like and support your page?   Any info would be much appreciated.

Regards   Eric

Hey Glen and Lisa,

I really enjoy your wood turning videos. I have never seen anyone use carbide turning tools as good as you. I live in the US and wish I could purchase some from you but it is what it is. Where do you buy your sanding mandrel that are on your makita? They look very sturdy.

Thanks

Mark

Hi Lisa,

The parting tool arrived yesterday and it works brilliantly!

Using sawblades to make these is a stroke of genius.

Thanks again

Glen

I really enjoy your woodturning videos and subscribe to your channel.

I am in Australia and have been turning on and off for 10 years.

I am using carbide tools ( not too cheap ) but can see the value in yours.

I think I have seen somewhere that you only ship to the UK, I dont have a problem with higher postage to get quality tools.

Even if its a no to my question, appreciate your time.

John

Dear Glen and Liza,

Just a quick thank-you for the chisels that arrived today, very well packaged. They look and feel great. I am a complete noice and have some lessons booked shortly, but I had to have a go as soon as I received them. Even on a bit of old pine 2x2, on my antique Myford lathe, it is clear that they are much more capable than I am. A lot to learn but practice makes perfect and, more importantly, it is going to be fun.

Thank-you again for your quick and professional service. I will be back for more tools as my abilities develop.

A couple of items, firstly having just got your Detail 90, got to say what a great tool, far easier for me to use than a skew & with the short handle ideal, you should make a video on its wide range of uses. Merry Christmas to you & Liza & hope those big fat cod keep biting.

Hi,

Many thanks for the swift despatch of my chesil which I received yesterday.......... Can't use it yet as it's a Chrissy present from my wife if you get my drift!!!

As a novice, I am finding the videos extremely useful.

One further advantage of carbides is that I do all my woodworking in a community woodworking shed where you can imagine that all of the traditional chisels get some hammer and are rarely shaperened and as a novice, I wouldn't even dream of having a go of sharpening at the moment (This will come in time I guess once I become a little more confident with everything).  Carbides certainly give me the confidence that I am at least using something sharp which then allows me to practice my cuts whilst working towards the smoothest finish I can get before sanding.

............ I should have got into this woodturning lark years ago, it's brilliant!

Regards,

Adrian Baker

Glen and Liza,

Hope everything has been going well for both of you.

It has been a while since my last email, but rest assured,  i have not missed a video. I have recently retired, and am trying to make my turning a little more profitable, so I have been a little busy.

I wanted to share my latest creations with another " thank you ".  Your voice runs through my head the entire time I am turning, helping me stay safe, on task, and make what you see in the pic.

Fun fact: everything but the two snow man icecicle- type ornaments on your far right are made from ten- pin bowling pins (laminated maple)

Thanks again.

If it's still OK, I would like to continue to reach out to say hi every now and then.

Wishing both of you a healthy and happy Christmas and New Year.

They are beautifully made and the parting tool is a gem to use. the hollowing tool is great too, I,m alright with the spindle but the hollowing will take a bit of practice as I am still learning.  Just thought I would let you know

Always a pleasure to buy from you. Prices are good and tools are excellent. Your communication is great which helps to make things much more personal, unlike eBay and Amazon. To be able to learn from and be entertained by your videos is so helpful. Keep up the good work πŸ‘.

I'll be back for more tools as soon as I need them.
Happy New Year.
